MysticaGirls is a band lead by the guitarist Cinthya Blackcat. Its original project started in 2007, but the band’s history can be tracked back to 2005, with a cover band named “Mystica”.
In the beginning, “Mystica” played a variety of covers, including genders like rock (Spanish and English) Metal, Oldies, Grunge and Punk among others. At the beginning of 2007, the band decided to create original songs, and its name was changed to “MysticaGirls”. The band started producing its original project and released a 4 song demo.
Nonetheless, MysticaGirls kept playing covers in different bars in Mexico City, like they had been doing since 2005, in the most important bars and cover venues, like: Yuppie´s Sports Café (Zona Rosa), Hard Rock Café (Polanco), Irish pub and Celtics (Satélite), Rock and Road (Luz Savignon), D´lao (Zona Rosa), Manzana y Canela (Zaragoza), Live (Polanco), Red Live (Copilco), Barril del Coyote (Coyoacán) among many others. The band also played in the Contest “Transfusión al Rock 2006” at the Lunario del Auditorio Nacional, ending up among the 10 first places of a total of one hundred participating bands. In May 2009 it contested in the event of Heavy Metal Wacken Open Air México becoming also finalist among 28 bands, and finalists as well in the Global Battle of Bands 2011 Hard Rock Café México. It has also participated in special events like the Tribute to Iron Maiden in Foro Ollin Kahn 2009 and the Beatles memorial at Deportivo Morelos in Cuajimalpa alternating with bands like Morsa.
MysticaGirls rapidly started gaining popularity and got to perform in stages like Circo Volador, Bar Piraña, Monster Bar Tlalnepantla, Dada X, Pabellón Este of Palacio de los Deportes, Comic Expos like TNT 13, Anniversary XXVII of Tianguis Cultural del Chopo, Chalco´s Fair 2007, many times in tianguis del Chopo, The Nut Fair 2008 in Ameca Meca, Metalfest On The Street (Tláhuac), 2da Feria de la Juventud (Acolman), México City Zócalo, Feria del libro in Reforma 2010, Centro de convenciones Tlalnepantla, and diverse Plazas in various México City counties.
In November 2008, MysticaGirls does a small independent tour in Europe, performing in cities like Madrid in Spain and Rome in Italy. In January 2009, MysticaGirls presented its debut Ep, “Diluvio”, in Dada X, alternating with the American band “The Last Dance”. Diluvio is composed by 5 songs in where the band’s influences start to show up, containing different variants of the Metal gender.
Mystica Girls, growing up in an exponential way, achieved to be a part of important festivals like: Vive Latino 2010, Hell and Heaven Metal Fest 2010 and 2011 with Brujeria and Therion (2010), and with Megadeth, Fear Factory and Overkill among others (2011), Festival And Justice For All in Monterrey 2011, Festival Grito de Guerra in August 2010 (with Transmetal, Agora y Maligno among others) The Presentation of the record of the Band “Kenny y los eléctricos” in August 2009, Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato 2009, Rock Al Norte 2007 (Centro de Convenciones Tlalnepantla, alternating with bands like “La Cuca”, “Haragán y Cía.” and “Dildo”, among others) Festival “Rodando Por la Vida” 2008 (Embarcadero Cuemanco with Salvador y Los Leones) “Rock Por la No Violencia” (June 2008, Explanada de la Delegación Venustiano Carranza, next to “Maldita Vecindad”, “Salón Victoria” and “Tex-Tex”; Festival Temasfest in Temascalapa, Hidalgo, sharing credits with “Los Pardos” and “San Pascualito Rey”, Feria internacional de Puebla and Jugueton Chilapa Guerrero in 2013.
The band also played with the Spanish group “Ángeles del Infierno” in San Bartolo Ameyalco, and in June 2009 the band performed as the opener for the Italian band “Cadaveria” in Circo Volador; it also opened the show for Paul di Anno (former Iron Maiden vocalist) in Querétaro 2009, “The Misfits” at Hard rock Live in 2009 among many others.
In the rest of the country, MysticaGirls has played in places like Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, Cholula, Tehuacán, San Luis Potosí (Fenapo 2011, Morbid Fest V, Metal Girls fest etc.), Irapuato, León, Celaya, Guanajuato, San Francisco del Rincon, Acámbaro, Guerrero, Querétaro, Orizaba, Pachuca, Toluca and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, performing as the Headliner.
The band has appeared in the Media in newspapers like Excélsior, Reforma, La Jornada, El Metro, Récord, Universal, Gráfico, Crónica, Unomasuno, Impacto, Notimex, and magazines like Play boy, Revista Nocturna, Revista Marvin, Revista Gótica, Dark, and radio stations like Reactor 105.7 FM, Interferencia 730 AM, Radio Capital 830 AM and other national and international radio stations as well as internet stations; The band has also been in different blogs and international independent magazines in countries like USA, Brazil, England, Greece, among others. When it comes to TV, the band has been in Programs like Animal Nocturno in TV Azteca, “Los Monchis” in Telehit, different appearances in Canal 22 and diverse local TV stations in and outside the country like in the USA, El Salvador etc. Cinthya Blackcat has also performed in international massive programs such as Teletón 2012, playing with Alejandro Sanz, and Sabadazo (2013) both in Televisa.
In April 2011, the band released their first Videoclip, for the Single Metal Rose, in social networks and media, (mainly YouTube), and in August 6th the presentation of their second Ep record with the same name had place in Circo Volador, selling out the venue. The record was available for sale at the most important stores in the country, as well as International Digital distribution.
That year, the book “Provocare un Diluvio” by the writer Arthur Alan Gore took place. In its pages, he tells about the time he spent with the band as Media manager, having a good acceptance by the public, in the same year, the band decided to quit the covers for good to focus exclusively on their original project.
In December 2011 the band released their second Videoclip “My Dinner”, and by the end of the year “Metal Rose” was named by the Tv program “Radicales TV” in El Salvador, as one of the best videos of the year.
In February 2012, the well known vocalist Mon Laferte and drummer Yoli Moreno joined the band; for this reason, in April, a new single with a promotional videoclip named “The Conquest” was released, generating more than 30 000 plays in just one month, notoriously increasing the band’s popularity, since “Metal Rose” had more than half a million plays by the time it was one year old.
In 2013, the band started writing new material for its first full CD. The recording started in September. By this time, Kathy Whitewolf (bass) joined the band as a recording musician for the new album, and became an official member of MysticaGirls in January 2014, just in time for the release of the brand new record “Gates of Hell”.
With almost a decade of experience in it, a powerful symbolic background and a lot of work in production, “Gates of Hell” was officially released in Digital Worldwide distribution in February 2014, and the physical versions of it in March.
The first reviews and acceptance of the new sound of the band and the new record have been outstanding. MysticaGirls is getting ready to make a new videoclip for the song “Gates of Hell” (that gives the album its name) and rehearsing for several concerts in Mexico and the recording of a live DVD. After that, tours in Central and North America, Europe and Japan, might take place.
